Homeschooled Kids Blog Carnival #15 – Emirpimes!

15NumberFifteenInCircleWelcome to the fifteenth Homeschool Kids Blog Carnival.

I am excited to host a return engagement of the one and only (that I know of!) carnival of blogs written by kids, for kids.  The first time that I hosted, I labeled the eighth carnival “Inspiration!” because I was amazed at the breadth of imaginative possibilities displayed in those posts.

This time, I considered labeling the carnival “Perseverance!” because I’m astounded at the tenacity of these young writers.  This blog carnival just keeps on going, growing stronger and more interesting, and is now well over a year in existence.

Instead, I’ve labeled it “Emirpimes!” because that is one of the unique properties of the number fifteen.  Did you know that?  I didn’t until I plugged it into the Number Gossip Generator. Don’t ask me to explain what an emirpines is, but here is a definition I found on Wolfram’s Mathworld:

Define an emirpimes (“semiprime” spelled backwards) as a semiprime whose (base 10) reversal is a different semiprime. The first such number is 15, because 15 reversed is 51 and both 15 and 51 are semiprimes (i.e., 15=3×5 and 51=3×17). A list of the first emirpimeses (or “semirpimes”) are 15, 26, 39, 49, 51, 58, 62, 85, 93, 94, 115, 122, 123, … (Sloane’s A097393). A binary plot of the semirpimes is illustrated above.

Still don’t get it, but I bet some of the following young geniuses will!

New digs?

Amiri is back to share What’s Been Going On in his new blog, Inside Sniper’s Mind.

Keaton explains Why Staying in a Hotel is Fun.   I like his reasons!  What do you think is the best reason to stay in a hotel: the pool, the maid service, or the breakfast buffet?

Going bananas?

Gecko’s Tips For Survival will have you laughing out loud, while picking up important things to know like:

Blogs are like a journal, but if you don’t post on them, the pages get moldy and shrivel. (how did that get in there?)

Nate has a very long, complete (for now) story in Long Time Past. It’s a tale of Bananazers, Boxing Matches, Lions, Dragons and so much more from long, long ago.

Have you heard about the connection between bananas and spiders?  Yes, spiders!  Read all about it in Farm Girl’s Where Bananas Come From.

In another incredible connection, Curly Ben pits Farm Animals Versus Tornados.  I won’t tell you who wins, you’ll just have to read it to find out.

Should I remind Hightown not to count those chickens before they hatch?  Nah, I’m just so delighted with this ode to the most Gorgeous George, a chicken of unsurpassed loveliness and sociability.

Alice has taken on the challenge to write a story with five words: allegiance, geometry, appearance, biennial, and disturbance.  Jenny the Bunny is a fantastic tale, but beware the sound effects.  That’s all I’m going to say.

Horsing around?

Princess Kitten leaves us with a cliffhanger in My Winter Wonder Land, a tale that is sure to appeal to horse or fantasy lovers.  I hope she tells us what happens next!

It’s a sad story, but a beautiful poem in Araya’s In Honor of Sonny The Amazing Horse, By Nina.

Timeless history?

How do you get clean cotton? MentalWeight explains in this history of Cotton.

Elferkid presents both sides of the gun debate that follows from her explanation of The Second Amendment in the US Constitution’s Bill of Rights.

Benny has a very strong opinion about what women can or can’t do that he shares in Boys Rule.  Do you agree with him?

Vienna shares interesting information about the Austrian capital in Some Facts On Vienna Austria. The yummiest:

A sachertorte cake is so rich and so creamy that one bite can make a chocolate lovers heart sing.

Alex explains how The Celts were connected by traveling, storytelling bards.  Who needs the Internet when you can have ballads?

All that glitters?

NeonGlitter has received a plethora of items in the mail, among them were several books from publishers that she lists in Wowness! How’s that for a fabulous title?

Buttercup found a delightful series that describes how to Write Your Own Story.  She added photo samples from the Mystery and Fantasy books in the series, and I have to say, they look great!

Tayler shares a field trip with fabulous photos of Olympic Gold

It looks like Roblox has another convert.  Elijah returns to tell us why Roblox Is Fun.

Until the next one…

That is it for this edition of the Homeschooled Kids Blog Carnival.

We’ve been looking forward to this carnival. Great job to everyone! The emirpines thing is very obscure – which we really enjoyed, too. Thanks a lot!
