Home School Lesson Plans On The Fly

by Sandra Foyt on September 17, 2008

bagels Alex and I are on the road this week.  Big sister Kayla is on a three-day camping trip along with all the 4th-8th Graders at her school, so we’re roaming further afield than usual.

We’re enjoying yet another benefit of home schooling - the freedom to explore our world.

Since Alex is studying insects, we’re going to check out the Butterfly Garden at the Bronx Zoo.  The following day, Alex will be sharing his research on Ancient Greece as he guides our tour of the Greek & Roman Art rooms at the Metropolitan Museum.

Although it isn’t on our lesson plan, since we’re here anyway, we’re also stopping at the American Museum of Natural History to see Lizards, Snakes, and Sea Monsters.

I’m sure we’ll discover quite a lot about a variety of subjects.  We’ll also have a wonderful time absorbing the sights, sounds, and flavorful foods.

Just one more thing I love about home schooling Alex: the hands-on, minds-on fun field trips.

I’m keeping this post short today, storing energy for city walks, but take a look at this collection of first-hand accounts from teachers in a wide spectrum of schools across America.  These professionals clearly love teaching.

I’d love to hear from you.  If you’re a teacher at home, or in school, full-time or part time, past or present - what do you love about teaching?
