In New York, homeschoolers are required to file Quarterly Reports on 11/15, 1/31, 4/15, and 6/30 (or dates specified on IHIP.)
New York’s Quarterly Report Requirement – Grades 1-6

  1. The number of hours of instruction (225 hours.)

  2. The number of days of instruction (45 days.)

  3. A description of material covered in: arithmetic, reading, spelling, writing, the English language, geography, United States history, science, health education, music, visual arts, physical education, bilingual education and/or English as a second language where the need is indicated. Also include the following subjects between K-12: patriotism and citizenship; health education regarding alcohol, drug and tobacco misuse; highway safety and traffic regulations, including bicycle safety; and fire and arson prevention and safety.

  4. A grade or evaluative written narrative evaluating the child’s progress.

  5. A written explanation in the event that less than 80 percent of the amount of the course materials as set forth in the IHIP planned for that quarter has been covered in any subject.

Fulfilling The Quarterly Report Requirement

I was not given a form to fill out, so I used my older child’s 2nd Grade report card and a friend’s homeschool forms for guidance. For this first report, I used Skills Assessments Grade 2 (Steck-Vaughn Co., 2002) to determine grades.
