Are You Living By Learning?

by Sandra Foyt on September 29, 2007

2007-sep-29-002.jpgMy husband always jokes that I can’t start a project without a pile of books. It’s true. I also can’t start an exercise program without the right outfit, or a sport without the right gear.

Before we adopted a puppy, I picked up Mother Knows Best: The Natural Way to Train Your Dog. When we decided to have children, I rushed out to get What to Expect When You’re Expecting (and later the First Year & Toddler books.) Soon I was collecting every book on parenting that I could find at Barnes & Noble. By the time I was ready to turn over all those baby books to one of my sisters, it was quite a pile.

In the years that I thought about switching to homeschooling, I also picked up some excellent books. Here are some of my favorites (in random order):

  • 100 Top Picks For Homeschool Curriculum - Choosing the Right Curriculum and Approach for Your Child’s Learning Style (Cathy Duffy, 2005)
  • Homeschooling: Take a Deep Breath - You Can Do This! (Terrie Lynn Bittner, 2004)
  • Creative Home Schooling: A Resource Guide For Smart Families (Lisa Rivero, 2002)
  • Home Learning Year by Year: How to Design a Homeschool Curriculum from Preschool Through High School (Rebecca Rupp)
  • Homeschooling The Early Years: Your Complete Guide to Successfully Homeschooling the 3- to 8-Year Old Child (Linda Dobson, 1999)
  • The Ultimate Book of Homeschooling Ideas: 500+ Fun and Creative Learning Activities (Linda Dobson, 2002)
