”Impossible things do come true!”
Alex and I listened to this, over and over, as Kayla rehearsed for her debut in the chorus of Cinderella. After hearing this a few million times, something sunk in.
There is an important message behind the bippipity boppity boo.
Anyone can make their wishes come true!
My wish was to see the sparkle back in the kids’ eyes when thinking about school.
For Kayla, that meant putting her into a small, private middle school where it’s cool to learn. Now, she comes home eager to tell me about all the exciting topics and projects. Of course, she still has own spin on things. Her group is supposed to be learning about Cuba, but Kayla’s spin is to come up with bizarre, Castro-assassination plots. Hey, at least she is excited about school! So now we hear the Impossible Song alternating with “P (name of school) makes me sing!” (Maybe there is a bit of brainwashing going on in assembly, but who cares!)
Alex has been looking forward to being home schooled since last Spring, but I’ve been worried that the reality wouldn’t live up to the hype. Woohoo! It’s been even better than I thought. Everyday, Alex raves about homeschooling, even when he does work that I would consider boring.
On a recent visit to a replica canal boat, I thought that the field trip was a dud. I wasn’t working up any excitement about anything. Then, Alex discovered that the boat was only in our area for two days, after traversing the entire Erie Canal. He looked at the map depicting this trip, and he was flabbergasted. The questions started pouring out. What kind of engine? What kind of fuel? Why, why, why? The sparkle was blinding!
Sometimes it doesn’t take much to make a wish come true.
